1. Ellie Goulding - "Burn"
I have always like Ellie Goulding. Her angelic voice that sounds frail is extremely unique and sounds great. Combine interesting production that sounds like a Rihanna song in 2010 and you have a fantastic song. Too bad this was the only hit on the album.
2. Paramore - "Ain't It Fun."
I am sure I will get hate for liking this song. Hayley Williams goes for the straight pop angle here, but I dig it. The song keeps a light hearted tone in the music, but the lyrics are quite dark. The sarcastic tone of the lyrics might be off putting to some listeners but at some point we all have to grow up. I guess it is not fun at all, but at least music sounds like it is fun.
3. Martin Garrix - "Animals"
This song surprised me for how much radio play it got this year. I make it no secret that I like electronic dance music. I do like this song and the electronic music drop. Supposedly it was inspired by a Pharrell produced song. Can't get mad at the lyrics here as there is only three words in it.
4. Neon Trees - "Sleeping With a Friend"
Out of all the alternative crossover hit songs, this song was my favorite. I enjoy the 80s production, and the story in the song. Doesn't hurt the chorus is pretty catchy. Shame it only reach the top 20 on the pop radio play charts
5. Enrique Iglesias feat. Sean Paul - "Bailando"
This song is just fun. The beat is festive and fun, and Enrique keeps it light with the lyrics. Sure it is a pop song chord song and half the lyrics are in Spanish. Sean Paul sticks with rapping quick and not understanding him. I see potential in Enrique's music that I have not seen in long time for being good. Enrique should stick with this tempo and stay away from edm. He has run that sound dry.
6. Kendrick Lamar -"i"
I featured this song in a new music section of what I like. It still holds up with me, and listened to it practically everyday. For those who struggle with depression it is positive anthem of raising your hands in the air. I eagerly await K dot next album and see where he goes with this new sound. Hip Hop is going to dominated by Kendrick in 2015, I'm sure of it.
